During the last 30 years or so, there was a quantitative shift in favour of using chemical fertilizers by the farming community. Repeated and extensive use of these chemical fertilizers have deteriorated soil quality resulting in progressively diminishing crop yield. Vast tracts of agricultural land has turned barren and unproductive. Also, there is growing awareness and alarm among the people about the hazards due to chemicals entering our bloodstream through our air, water and food intake. This has resulted in increasing incidence of diseases from asthma to cancer, notwithstanding the tremendous strides that we have made in the field of medicine. There is a constant endeavour among the enlightened to prevent toxic chemicals from entering our bodies. As a consequence, we find that there is increasing demand for organically grown crops, vegetables and other cash crops. Biotechnology Resource Centre is a leading Indian company in the development and production of state-of-the-art biofertilizers and bio-repellents. BRC is actively engaged in the development and marketing of biofertilizers, bio-repellents, soil-conditioners, plant growth regulators, plant tonics and in vermiculture. The spectacular growth of BRC, founded in 1994, is attributed to the vision, dynamism and idealism of its founders and well-known biotechnologists, Dr. Sudhir D. Ghatnekar, Mrs Anjali Ghatnekar and Dr. Mahavash F. Kavian.
